The UFC and PokerStars are partnering to encourage live sports betting and gambling in general.
UFC 232 just finished a few days ago with quite a few headlines. First, Jon Jones returned and won his title back. Second, Cris Cyborg lost which lead to Darren Rovell explaining how it was bad for the UFC and Dana White snapping back. Third, Megan Anderson won her fight by literally kicking Cat Zingano in the eye.
While the pay-per-view style of the UFC may not lead to near constant content as the likes of the other four professional sports leagues, their timely events draw heavy attention. A large reason for this is the gambling that takes place for the UFC.
UFC 232 was the first event with PokerStars as a sponsor. Like with any sport, people will bet who wins, how they win, the length of the fight, and just about anything else you can imagine. So it makes sense for the leading online poker website to place some chips in the UFC. While poker and sports betting aren't directly related, they both have to do with gambling and attract the same demographic.
It is likely that UFC fans, especially those placing bets on the fights, will see the PokerStars logos and check out their site. This move will likely increase PokerStars brand awareness among UFC fans as well as vice versa.
The deal will also be more than just signage as there will also be social media campaigns and other promotions. With the legalization of sports betting, deals like this are likely to continue. Please remember to gamble responsibly.
1.) Both sides will benefit with increased brand awareness as fans of both organizations will likely cross-over.
2.) This deal is congruent and makes sense for all parties involved, which will only drive the message home harder.
3.) Social media and other promotions will be key to getting fans involved with both betting the UFC and going to PokerStars.
