With this recent deal, a major sports team will be able to further utilize their sponsorships.
In case you missed the news, we have recently reached a deal with D.C. United to become their official Digital Marketing Partner. Along with our partnership with the United Soccer League, we are enabling American soccer teams to be more effective and efficient with their sponsorships.
On another front, this deal nearly completes us partnering with every D.C. sports team. D.C. United has several partnerships and great events they put on and they are moving into a brand new stadium this season. All of this combines to make it an exciting time to partner up.
In our last blog, we highlighted United's brand new stadium and the sponsorship opportunities there. If you haven't done so already, please give that a read here.
But in this one, we will highlight other areas where D.C. United are leaders and innovators. For a recent example of this, you don't have to look any further than Wayne Rooney.
One of football's biggest names is joining United which can only benefit prospective sponsorship opportunities. There has already been tremendous media coverage and attention since the announcement and Rooney hasn't even stepped onto the field yet for United.
Having a star player in any sport provides numerous benefits for everyone involved. Sponsors will be and already are chomping at the bit to utilize Rooney in an activation. In addition to his personal endorsements, he is now playing in the United States and will likely be active in the endorsement scene.
Football is still a team game though and it requires teamwork to be successful. The same goes for sponsorships in the sport which is why activations usually involve more than just one player.
It is no surprise that D.C. United takes part in multiple sponsored community outreach programs. One example is their extended role in the MLS WORKS program called "Soccer for All." In this case, United will be partnering with Special Olympics DC to host a unified soccer team tryout. This will provide people with disabilities to play soccer with some of the best.
Additionally, United will also send out multiple players to "DC SCORES' Jamboree to volunteer and have fun with local D.C. area kids. In the past, United has had their players personally donate gear and funds to local programs and teams.
That is just grazing the surface with United's community outreach. United also has several programs and activations they run for their games. Two of their most popular campaigns involve community outreach. The first is the "Name in Lights" program where fans can donate money D.C. Scores to have a message shown on the scoreboard at games. Second, United also promotes certain charity drives at each game where fans can donate to earn discounts on team merchandise.
It is very rare to see a team or fan base give back as much to the community as D.C. United.
When you can add in the excitement over a brand new stadium, the addition of Wayne Rooney, and United's numerous list of sponsors and events, it could not be a better time for us to partner and help continue their success.
Below you can find pictures of their different events, stadium, and other activations.
