Intel recently became official partners of the Olympics and they have hit the slopes at full speed.
The most prestigious sporting event in the world to sponsor is the Olympics. They provide great exclusivity and protection from outside sponsors and you are able to own your own category. Intel recently became a part of this selective crowd and Pyeongchang is their first Olympics to activate.
They did not wait long to show off their technology as they used over 1,200 drones during the opening ceremony to display the five rings above the stadium--a Guinness World Record. You can check out a picture below.
Throughout the Olympics, Intel will also use virtual reality technology to showcase different events in a new and futuristic way. These can be found via NBC's VR app so you can watch the events from the athletes' point of view. In addition, Intel also followed four different athletes' paths to the Olympics using VR technology.
Intel's partnership with the Olympics runs through 2024 so you can only imagine what they will be able to do for those games in Paris.
Brian Krzanich--Intel CEO
“Intel is a world leader in its field, and we’re very excited to be working with the Intel team to drive the future of the Olympic Games through cutting-edge technology. The Olympic Games provide a connection between fans and athletes that has inspired people around the world through sport and the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect. Thanks to our new innovative global partnership with Intel, fans in the stadium, athletes and audiences around the world will soon experience the magic of the Olympic Games in completely new ways.”
1.) Exclusivity and brand awareness is so important and with this partnership, Intel will get a huge audience worldwide and does not have to worry about their competition.
2.) Technology continues to play a prominent role in sports and life in general. Intel is doing a nice job of using the Olympics as a stage to show off what they can do.
3.) As the Olympics are a worldwide event, it is important to activate effectively worldwide as well. Intel makes sure they do this by activating on-site as well as for the fans watching at home.
4.) This partnership runs through four different Olympic games, each in a different location. Intel will have to continue innovating their product to create the "wow" factor during each of those games while also catering their activation to each location.
5.) How would you activate your partnership with the Olympics? With a worldwide audience, there are tons of options to take into account.
