The National Lacrosse League lands one of its biggest partners yet.
The MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and even MLS are all household names in the U.S. They are gigantic nationwide professional sports leagues that grasp the attention of millions each year. But the National Lacrosse League (NLL) is looking to add their name to that list and it's starting with their newest deal with Geico.
The NLL is an indoor lacrosse league consisting of 13 teams ranging from San Diego, CA to Rochester, NY. They even have four teams located throughout Canada (Vancouver, Saskatchewan, Calgary, and Toronto), which is most likely because all games are played inside ice hockey arenas.
If you know anything about normal lacrosse, you have realized that this league plays its games on a much smaller playing field. Outdoor lacrosse is usually played on a football field and is much more open, but slower. The NLL utilizes the smaller playing space because it creates tighter and higher-scoring action. They have rules which include shot clocks and penalties for not getting the ball past "mid-field."
Starting in 1986, this league has started making serious moves in recent years. A few years ago, they partnered with Fox Sports to show their games on the Fox Sports Go App and now they will be partnering with Geico.
As a part of the deal, Geico will have signage on every team's away jersey. This guarantees that every single NLL game will have at least one team with Geico's name. As the league grows and more people watch the games, Geico will be at the forefront. On the other hand, the NLL greatly benefits from having a national sponsor invest and partner which can only help with brand awareness and growth.
Who's your favorite NLL team? I'm going to go with the Toronto Rock as they are the closest in proximity to me. Let us know your thoughts on Twitter or Instagram!
